POETRY filled with ROMANCE

Writer's picture: Louise EmanuelLouise Emanuel

ONCE

meeting you once was all it took

you stayed inside my head

as time went by

in my dreams I'd find you

and wonder what that meant

I knew that I could not let you remain

an eternal question mark

a "what if" or "one that got away"

I could not forget our spark

I did not want to live in regret

for opportunity quickly fleets

the stars had aligned

for our paths to coincide

and intended us to meet

I would not wait another lifetime

pride put aside, I reached for you

and as your hand reached back

I was sure of what the deepest parts of me knew

SAME PAGE

to trace the lines on your palms

you would find we were destined to meet

though second chances are seemingly rare

without it, our story was incomplete

for how were we to know, in no time how much we'd grow,

only to return with feelings that sustained

any number of days, a million miles, a million ways

wherever we may stray, we are always on the same page

FAIRYTALES

when I was a little girl

I would daydream of a prince

as I grew, cynicism did too

and I've barely thought of him since

nonetheless, he was kind and sweet

tall and handsome and brave

bold enough for a life of adventure

not confined to a picket fenced cage

he had the strength to win battles

and carry me home through the rain

with a heart full of love to give

he'd bring laughter to ease the pain

no matter what enemies we'd encounter we would face them as a team

and just as it seemed all hope was lost he'd sweep me off my feet

but every princess finding her prince

will kiss a few frogs along the way

and these frogs jump on fragile hearts

and make them lose their faith

until one day, when least expected

that distant daydream knocks at her door

when least expected appears the kind of man

who makes her believe in fairytales once more

LOVERS

my heart on your sleeve

your hand in my pocket

reaching for the keys with you

l am at peace

hoping that if you leave

you leave only with me

a seat saved at every table

the last dance saved too

with no folding of the edges

there was a space in my life

in the shape of you

a feeling of ease

how different this seems

a risk that was worth the cost

you are the full stop that finishes off

a perfectly worded sentence
